Properly known as American Tunis, the breed was developed from Tunisian Barbary sheep (which dates to ancient times) by small infusions of Southdown.  Tunis is raised for meat and wool production. The wool is a warm cream (lambs are born red and early fleece may have reddish or tan tones). The wool is versatile, with crispness that will hold lace open and display stitch definition.
