Additional Info

Cheviots have been recognized as the dominant breed in the area of the Cheviot Hills for centuries. Cheviots reached North America in 1838. The breed is primarily raised for meat production. The sheep are lively, and frequently used to train Border Collies. Cheviots produce a high bulk fleece, always white. The staple length is 4 - 5 inches and rectangular with pointed tips. Cheviots have a unique three dimensional crimp, bold and uniform. The fleece is in the medium soft range. While not a Down breed, the fleece is difficult to felt, a natural sock yarn as well as being excellent for sweaters and blankets.
